POLICIES
- All our activities are subject to the school calendar, policies, rules, and regulations.
- Inherent in all individual music instruction there is minimal physical contact. This is strictly restricted to the fingers and hand of the student, Any and all such occasional physical contact is limited to temporary tapping and re-positioning of fingers or hand, and involves no rubbing, holding, squeezing, etc.
- Please be aware that learning to play a musical instrument (especially strings!) requires a basic level of cognitive development, physical dexterity, control, and coordination, mental focus, self-awareness, self-control, analytical and sequential reasoning, basic literacy (alphabet A-G, numbers 1-10, left/right hand).
- We welcome students aged 6 and up, as a rule. Students can sign up at any time during the school year.
- Lessons are possible year-round, in order to maintain continuity and constantly raise standards. Fall scheduling priority is offered to students who continue over the summer (minimum of 5 lessons).
- Students perform solos twice yearly, and in groups (violin and cello only), in the school Auditorium.
- At any time, string students have the opportunity to be promoted to the higher level ensemble, at the discretion of the program director, and only based on student's demonstrated skill, assimilated repertoire, commitment, lesson/concert attendance, and general attitude in lessons and group classes. (availability TBD)
- For violin or cello, the Orchestra experience (Group Class) is only offered as part of signing up for weekly individual lessons, and cannot be joined separately. (availability TBD)
- Problems that may arise concerning your child’s interest or progress should NOT be discussed in the presence of the child. Please discuss your observations and share feedback with the teacher and MIS privately. We appreciate and value your concerns and involvement - open communication between us is essential for a good music education for your child.
- All sheet music and other materials are and remain the intellectual property of their respective copyright holders, and are not to be shared, stored, or duplicated, either physically or electronically, outside of the Music-In-Schools program, at any time, and under no circumstances, without prior written approval. This covers resources attached to emails received from the program director and teacher.
- All students are encouraged to attend musical performances and maximize their potential, resources, opportunities, and time.
