JUNE 2022 NEWS
- Our End-of-Year Concert is scheduled for Thu. June 9th @ 6pm, in the Ebinger auditorium (FREE admission, no tickets required).
- CONCERT DETAILS:
- Concert attire - smart casual (no sneakers if possible, please!).
- Please arrive around 5:45. If you have other things scheduled that evening, please let me know, and your child can play at the beginning of the concert.
- PLEASE BRING the music lesson binder to the concert.
- The concert is free. Family, friends, and neighbors are invited. To participate in the concert, tuition must be current.
- Our last day of in-school lessons is Monday, June 13th.
- Summer lessons can continue at my Park Ridge studio and/or online (FaceTime works great!). I will be out-of-town mid-June to early July, but will do remote lessons through the summer break, and in person from early July.
- Please have the kids review ALL the material covered so far. In our lessons, we always review, ensuring a thorough understanding of the fundamentals, as well as recent material.
- We will decide on a concert piece one-two weeks prior to the concert, and focus on that piece. It must be a song that the student can play well and without stopping, in other words PERFORMANCE READY. Time is short. Most students choose their own solo that they feel comfortable with - we encourage participation and responsibility in the learning process. It's better to play an "easy" song really well rather than to make a mess out of a still-challenging song - quality matters!
- If lessons were started very recently, it's perfectly ok to wait until our December holiday concert, but please come attend the concert and support the performing students.
- Practice: 10-15min 4-5 times weekly is a good minimum guideline to ensure progress and keep building new skills.
- Practice Makes Progress. Mindful repetition is how the brain grows understanding and consolidates good habits.
- PLEASE send the lesson binder to school on the day of our lesson - the lesson day is written on the binder's cover (top right corner). Although the students are welcome to use my spare binder, I cannot give them checkmarks or motivational stickers unless they bring their own binders to our weekly lessons.
- If you have an iOS device, here's the note-reading app we use in our lessons (note-reading flashcards). Sadly, there is no Android version -> https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notes-learn-to-read-music/id423178140
- In terms of tuition, as per our policies, monthly tuition is due at the first lesson of the month. Please see the school calendar below (it can always be found at https://ww.cps.edu/globalassets/cps-pages/calendar/sy2021-2022-academic-calendar-english.pdf):
- THANK YOU for giving your child(ren) this learning opportunity and for all that you do at home! Have a GREAT summer!!!
